It was only a matter of time before we crossed paths with Oishii Sushi Bar. This Sunnybank Hills sushi bar has a strong (and vocal) following, who really seem to dig Oishii's style of fusion sushi. We ventured there on a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon, and were surprised to see a respectable number of diners - while surrounding eateries were bare. A good sign.
We ordered a Spicy Beef, a Teriyaki Chicken, and a Dynamite (Tuna), and settled in for some tasting. The Dynamite (above, top) was truly superb in every way; the chilli added extra zest without overpowering the flavours of the filling, and the rice was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The Teriyaki Chicken was similarly superb. Unfortunately, the rice in the Spicy Beef rolls was disappointingly dry, a surprising aberration that demands a small points deduction.
That noted, Oishii is, overall, a fine place to go for anyone with a hankering for excellent sushi and some good old-fasioned eatin'. Dishes are roughly $10-$11 each, and the generous portions should sate any regular hunger.
